The Little Current Yacht Club and Mackinac Island Yacht Club are proud to announce the 2011 edition of Island Racing. There is no better place to race then the waters of Northern Lake Huron & the North Channel. This two race event will start on Wednesday July 20th with the running of the MIYC Round the Island Race.

Mackinac Island
The fourth Annual MIYC 'Round the Island Race' starts on the Wednesday after the finish of the Chicago Yacht Club Mackinac Race. After the big race everyone likes to tour Mackinac Island and see the beautiful scenery. What better way than to participate in this fun 10 mile race that circumnavigates the Island. You will tour the island as few visitors do and see it from a truly unique perspective. Of course after the race, awards, food and refreshments will be served at Windermere Point. Free dockage for the evening of July 20st will be included as part of the race entrance fee of $60.00.

Mackinac to Manitoulin Island
The eighth Annual MacMan Challenge will start on Thursday, July 21st and will finish Saturday, July 23th. The MacMan starts at the MIYC with registration and a cocktail party starting on Wednesday, July 20th at 4 PM. This race is for the serious racer or cruiser. The race totals 123 nautical miles and will be sailed in some of the most beautiful waters of the world. A premium is put on accurate navigation as you sail past and around the islands. Whether you are a racer or a cruiser you will enjoy your first stop, Gore Bay. This town is nestled between tree-covered cliffs, a very welcoming harbor. After you arrive a great fish fry awaits you on Friday evening. Saturday morning will start with a sailor’s breakfast and a 9 AM first start as you head to the grand finale in Little Current.

The second leg of the race is a 28 nautical miles sprint to Little Current, your final destination. In Little Current you will find a dock in front of the Little Current Yacht Club where all the contestants will soon be enjoying the post race camaraderie of fellow sailors. Cocktails will be served at the nearby pavilion before dinner. At 6 PM a bus will pick you up and deliver you to the dinner site where you will enjoy music and the themed awards ceremony and dinner. This year our theme will be 'Pirates of the North Channel.' Aye Matey be sure to bring your eye patch.

There will be a Spinnaker/Jenniker, Whitesail (Jib and Main) and Double Handed classes. The race fee includes three nights’ dockage, dinner and breakfast in Gore Bay, an awards dinner in Little Current and crew t-shirts for four. The best part will be after the finish, as you will be a short distance from the finest wilderness harbors in the North Channel.
