On the final day of the 2013 49er and 49erFX European Championships in Aarhus, Denmark the Australian crews have missed out on medals.

While there were no medals for Australian sailors at the event, the mainly new pairings took a lot away from a solid week of racing in a range of conditions in Denmark.

Two Australian crews contested the petit-final on Sunday, with crews racing for a chance to join the top eight teams in the final. Will Phillips and Rhys Mara were in action in the 49er fleet, and Olivia Price and Caitlin Elks in the 49erFX.

Phillips and Mara started the nine boat petit-final in seventh position, with two theatre-style races held just off the shore in Aarhus.

The Australians were fifth in the opening race of the day and fourth in race two, finishing the petit-final in seventh position.

In the 49erFX class Olivia Price and Caitlin Elks went into the petit-final in fifth position, with three races scheduled for the women’s fleet.

Price and Elks began the day with a pair of ninths, before finishing the regatta off with an eighth to finish eighth in their final and 16th overall.

In the silver 49erFX fleet Tessa Parkinson and Chelsea Hall finished second overall, one place ahead of fellow Australians Haylee Outteridge and Nina Curtis. Ella Giudice and Kate Lathouras finished seventh.

Joel Turner and Lewis Brake finished 34th in the 49er fleet, an impressive performance in just their second international 49er regatta.

David Gilmour and Sam Phillips were the leading Australians in the 49er silver fleet, finishing fifth overall, with Peter Kendall and Harry Bethwaite seventh, and Luke Parkinson and Fang Warren 20th. George Davies and Jack Lloyd were fourth in the bronze fleet.

At the 2013 RS:X European Championships in Brest, France, Joanna Sterling ended the week as the leading Australian, finishing 20th in the women’s fleet. Fellow Australian Paris Stowell was 11th in the women’s silver fleet.

In the youth event Annalise Gilbert finished 36th in the women’s fleet, with Jock Calvert eighth in the men’s silver fleet.
