Australia’s rowing world record holder Andrew Abrahams, is less than six months away from taking on the mighty Atlantic Ocean, in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, commencing December 2.

Abrahams will row solo across 5,000 km (3,000 nautical miles) from San Sebastian De La Gomera across an unforgiving ocean to English Harbour, Antigua to raise $500,000 for Disadvantaged Children in the Community.

With a huge heart, Abrahams harnesses a determination to succeed in breaking another world record and raise half a million dollars to go directly to disadvantaged children in our community who brave challenges often unheard of in their daily lives.

'I am constantly reminded of the pain and suffering that children and their families go through when sickness or injury has struck a family member, so I use that energy to help me find a way to help.

Now when things get tough, as I prepare myself for the ultimate test of strength and endurance, I say to myself with a smile on my face; I’m rowing the Atlantic!' he said.

As co founder of the Townsville to Cairns bike ride which has raised $4.1 million for the Children’s Cancer Institute, Abrahams is up for the Challenge to race solo against teams from across the globe to conquer the 5,000kms in just 46 days.

Being a solo entrant, Abrahams is calm and pragmatic knowing he will be constantly exposed to the elements of extreme temperatures, storms, high seas, sharks and whales, dehydration, salt sores and solitude.

Every single dollar of the funds raised will go directly to disadvantaged children through Lions and Couee Community. Abrahams confirms that as workers for these charities are volunteers, he knows firsthand that every cent goes directly to the children to help buy them wheelchairs and aids which will make huge differences to their daily lives.

Importantly the registration for the Race which Andrew has paid for from his own personal fund, covers the cost of a rescue if the worst case scenario should occur. No taxpayer monies will be involved.
