Le skipper de Gedimat avait annoncé ce matin à la vacation une sérieuse avarie de grand-voile (déchirement entre la première latte et le deuxième ris sur une longueur de 10 mètres). Après réflexion avec son équipe technique et son partenaire, Thierry Chabagny a pris la décision d'abandonner la course.
D’après Thierry, une réparation en mer n’aurait pas suffi pour affronter la deuxième dépression attendue mercredi présageant un vent de sud-ouest au-dessus de 50 nœuds dans les rafales. L’autre solution possible, celle d’un arrêt à La Corogne, lui aurait coûté trop cher sportivement, puisque le skipper de Gédimat aurait compté entre 300 et 500 milles de retard sur ses camarades de course. Thierry Chabagny se présentait sur la Transat Bretagne-Martinique pour viser une place sur le podium.
Il se trouve actuellement à 140 milles de l’archipel des Glénan et fait route vers Concarneau. Le marin finistérien va se concentrer maintenant sur la préparation de la Solitaire du Figaro – Eric Bompard cachemire.
