New sponsor announced for Mobility Cup and IFDS Worlds
|
High Liner Foods of Lunenburg, N.S. has announced the company will be the title sponsor for two important sailing regattas coming to Nova Scotia. The Mobility Cup will be returning to Nova Scotia in 2013 and the International Association for Disabled Sailing (IFDS) will hold its world championships in Halifax in 2014. President and CEO Henry Demone says the role of title sponsor is a natural fit for the company: 'High Liner has rich history with the sea and sailing. We are proud to sponsor these events. In a properly rigged boat 'disabled' sailors have demonstrated their abilities by winning against the best sailors. This is inspiration for all of us.' The 2013 High Liner Mobility Cup is Canada’s national regatta for sailors with disabilities. ' It’s gratifying that High Liner Foods has chosen to support two important disabled sailing events hosted in Nova Scotia – one national event and one world championship event.' says Mobility Cup chair Michael Archibald. 'We at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron as host of these prestigious regattas are happy to be associated with a company that has a long-standing maritime heritage in Nova Scotia with a global presence.' IFDS promotes all types of sailing for people with all types and degrees of disability. The values of IFDS are equity, opportunity to excel and empowerment for sailors with disabilities. In August 2014, over one hundred disabled sailors from twenty countries will be involved in the world championships also hosted by the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron. The chair of the event, Heather Robertson, says, 'Without the generous support of our title sponsor High Liner Foods, we could not afford to host this major sporting event. We rely on the corporate sector to assist us in making our province a premiere destination for competitive international yacht racing, for which the RNSYS has a proud history spanning more than a century.' RNSYS is the home club of Paul Tingley who won a gold medal in the 2.4mR class at the 2008 Beijing Summer Paralympics and a World Championship in 2010. High Liner Foods is the leading North American processor and marketer of prepared, valueadded frozen seafood. High Liner is headquartered in Lunenburg. It procures seafood worldwide and processes and markets under several brands in Canada and the United States. Mobility Cup website
