18ft Skiff Nationals 2013 - Australia Day domination

'Smeg crew relax after today’s tough 18ft skiff win - 18ft Skiffs: Australian Championship 2013'    Frank Quealey © /Australian 18 Footers League

Australian 18ft Skiff Championship celebrated Australia Day with a bang as Smeg, which showed excellent boat handling skills, captured the top spot on the podium in Heat Three. Nick Press, Dan Phillips and Dave (Gill) Ewings took the lead on the first kite run to Shark Is and were never headed in the 20 knot plus northeaster.

Rag and Famish Hotel, Jack McCartney, Mark Kennedy, and David Witt were second and always in striking distance of Smeg. These two leaders stayed masts upright in conditions that capsized the remainder of the fleet including the favourites Thurlow Fisher Lawyers, who finished third on the Podium, one swim, and Gotta Luv it 7, two swims, ended up with a fourth,

Yandoo fifth and DeLonghi Rabbitohs sixth. Thurlow tops the leaderboard after three heats, from Gotta Luv it 7, Rag and Famish Hotel, and Smeg fourth.
