Sail Sydney continued on Friday (Day 3) with fleets of the 2.4mRs, Access 303s, Libertys, 505s, Tasars, RS:Xs, Bic Techno 293s, Flying 11s, Moths, Optis, Sabots and Spirals on the water.

A massive increase in boats on the harbour and all four race courses were in full swing. The weather had decided to be grey and patchy but that certainly did not dampen the enthusiasm. The Sail Sydney volunteer team had the trailer park humming as over eighty Flying 11s and over sixty Optimists pulled in.

The Sabot class is also a popular one with over twenty making the trip to Woollahra Sailing club for Sail Sydney. Among them was the 2012 Northern Zone Champion Tom Stivano, steering his Sabot Slippery Little Sucker.

From Toronto Amateur Sailing Club, Stivano is no stranger to sailing; Geoff Burt, grandfather of the thirteen year old sailor said, 'All my grandchildren sail – I even sail'.

The Sabots State Titles runner-up described his love of sailing, saying, 'I like the water; it’s physical and mental. You’ve got to use your brain as well', he explained.

Saturday also saw the action of the ‘Dash for Cash’ which sent the Moths dashing around the course just off the shore. At the end of the elimination current World Champion Josh McKnight sailed off with the purse with Phil Kurts in second and James Owen-Smith in third.

There are twenty-two Moths in Sail Sydney this year and aside from the current World Champion, London Olympic gold medallists Tom Slingsby and Iain Jensen have joined the fleet. Slingsby expressed some concern that he might make a spectacle of himself, but was assured that cameras would be ready when and if he did.

With all classes racing in the fourth and final day, the competition remains close with most medals going down to the wire.
