Brian Todd named Nova Scotia Sailor of the Year

'Brian Todd Wins NS Sailor of the Year'    Nova Scotia Yachting Association

The Nova Scotia Yachting Association held its annual awards ceremony on Saturday, November 17 to acknowledge the best in the sport in 2012. Sailor of the Year was Brian Todd, a coach with both the national and provincial sailing teams for many years who has made a significant contribution to the sport. Brian retires at the end of this year.

Offshore Sailor of the year went to Todd Barnard for winning his class in the Newport to Bermuda Race.

Female Sailor of the Year was Danielle Dube who continues to be one of the best Laser Radial Sailors in the country. She represented Canada at the 2012 Olympic Games last summer.

Male Sailor of the Year went to Paul Tingley who represented Canada at his fourth consecutive Paralympic Games last summer finishing fifth overall in the 2.4mR class.


Youth Sailors of the Year were Allie Surrette and Ali ten Hove who captured the National Youth Championships in the 420 class and set a number of Canadian records while capturing large US Regattas.

Leagcy Fund Award winners were brothers Graeme and Jacob Chaplin-Saunders who continue to train and compete in the 470 class to earn a spot on the Canadian Sailing Team.

The Nova Trophy Community Coach Award went to Lesley Taylor from the Hubbards Sailing Club.

The WOW! Women On Water Award went to Kate Muir from the Mira Boat Club.

Merit awards were handed out to 13 youth sailors from across the province; Julian Qu, Cameron Shaw, Jake Megaffin, Alex Sapp, Alex Burke, Luke Ruitenberg, Devan Dube, Greg Simms, Andrew Burns, Max Flinn, Corinne Peters.
