The 2012 NSW Melges 24 State Titles will see a fleet of the one design class take over the waters of Lake Macquarie, this weekend. The regatta series sponsored by One Sail and hosted by Lake Macquarie Yacht Club kicks off Friday afternoon with a twilight race, followed by a full weekend of sailing. A strong North Easterly Breeze is forecast for Saturday afternoon and Sunday so we are looking forward to seeing the spectacle of close racing and boats planning down the Lake. The Melges designs are well suited to Lake Macquarie, they get plenty of run way and love the flat water. The majority of the teams came together a fortnight ago for the East Coast Championships and will be heading up the Pacific Highway in convoy on Friday.
 | NSW Melges 24 State Titles - Tracey Walters | East Coast Championship winner by a point Chris Links on Northshore Marine will be out to prove his dominance over the Nixon family on Accru for a second regatta this season. However, the predicted conditions really suit Accru it was in the light shifty wind they lost the East Coast Champs to Links. Daniel Nixon commenting 'Bring it on!' The field is actually wide open for this regatta. Last year’s winner Warwick Rooklyn Bandit is not attending the event and there are plenty of other boats including Foxtrot from South Australia keen to win the NSW State Titles especially after the Nixon’s from NSW won the South Australian States last year by a whisker. Warwick Rooklyn, the Australian Melges 24 Class Association President will instead be attending the International Melges 24 Class Association AGM in Helsinki on behalf of the National Association to present the Australian bid for Geelong to host the 2014 Melges 24 World Championships. The votes will be tight and we are up against several European Countries but the Australian Association and RGYC have a fantastic comprehensive proposal that ticks all the boxes and will provide a massive boost to the class in the Asia Pacific region.
