SAISA/MAISA Final at Charleston

Day one of the SAISA/MAISA final was another beautiful day in Charleston as sailors were greeted by clear skies and temperatures in the 60s. Racing began on Crab Bank at 10:30 after a short postponement onshore due to several no shows. Four races in each division were completed using W4s with an offset and a gate before a lunch break was taken. The fleet of 20 boats rode the ebb tide back to Crab Bank where eight more races were sailed using modified gold cups and W4s. Two protests were filed and will be heard in the morning.
Day two, Sunday, brought warmer temperatures and competitors overflowing with enthusiasm after receiving an extra hour of sleep. Two protests from Saturday were heard resulting in a DSQ for Georgia Tech. Racing began on Crab bank using W4s in a light southwesterly breeze and weakening flood tide. The third B division race was abandoned upon the arrival of a sea breeze.
The full rotation was completed thereafter using Course 5, a modified gold cup, in a substandard ebb tide and southerly breeze ranging from 6-8 kts. Two more protests were filed resulting in a DSQ for CofC 2. Thank you to Ned Goss, Allison Jolly, and John Pearce for hearing protests and the team of Cougars for assisting in race management. Congratulations to the College of Charleston for winning the 2012 SAISA/MAISA.
