Sail-World.com : All Souls Regatta Day 2 – Day One winners still reign supreme
All Souls Regatta Day 2 – Day One winners still reign supreme

'All Souls Regatta Day 2'    Asian Yachting
After a rousing start of racing at Puerto Galera Yacht Club, the action got more intense as yesterday’s winners tried to build decisive advantage over their competitors on the second day of All Souls Regatta. Several crews came ashore yesterday complaining about their performance and made plans to rectify the situation. Some sore heads after last nights barbeque and reverberating social reception were noticed at the morning briefing.

'Bill the Brave' made some final changes to the starting order based on the Race 1 results and everyone was looking forward to another spectacular day of racing. The 16nm Course 7 out to Verde Island and back was chosen for the Cruiser and Multihull Classes and the 21nm Course 8 for the Racing and Cruiser/Racer Classes contained an extra leg down to Talipanan and a windward beat back to the finish line. The breeze seemed to have moderated a little from yesterday but once out in the Verde Channel, the wind against tide whipped up a short chop on the outward leg and made the colorful spinnaker run back a wonderful backdrop to an already picturesque scenery.

The Puerto Galera Yacht Club's youth team on Guinivere II, once again put in a sterling effort to win two races on the trot in the Cruiser/Racer Class. Although rumblings were heard of favoritism this is only their second race on the recently donated boat and their big boat sailing ability was unknown. Also being alcohol free may have helped. David Wheeler's Free Wheeler came from behind overtaking five boats in the process to secure second place. Only a few minutes further behind C. Mclean's Karis held on to secure third place.

Despite the adjustment in starting times, K. Magill's Siri Ya stayed on form to narrowly clinch their second win in the Multihull Class. Although B. Feldman's Kalakuta was last to start they passed the other boats to claim second place. Chris Boddington's defending champion Windjammer had to settle on third place and may have to hand over the title.

All Souls Regatta Day 2 -  Asian Yachting
A repeat of yesterday in the Cruiser/Racer class. M. Raeuber's China Rose held the lead around the course, until the last windward beat when David McKenna's Raparee XXX chased them down to notch up another win. Youth sailing maybe the flavour of the regatta, as in McKenna's absence he has generously given the boat to his regular crew of young sailors from Subic Bay to compete on. A change in the order when Harry Taylor's Irresistable came from behind to secure third place.

As the wind picked up on the spinnaker run, it became difficult for the big boats to make an impression on the leaders. Yesterday A. Chamberlain's Sorcerer finished in front of Jun Avecilla's Selma Star, but the change in calculating the Racing Class results, saw Avecilla's Selma Star come out on top. Despite a gallant effort, this time Avecilla's Selma Star had to settle on second place. As Ray Ordoveza's Karakoa starts last, they had enough time to inspect the Verde Channel before the race and made the most of their observations to rapidly close in on the leaders but ran out of runway to end up third.

Racing concludes tomorrow after another passage race and 'Bill the Brave' goes to work on producing overall class results and somehow an overall winner of the regatta.
