Strong winds and heavy clouds were the scenery on day six of the Student Yachting World Cup, here in La Rochelle. From early morning, the weather showed its intentions and the race committee decided not to go against it. At the skippers briefing, already around 10 am, they announced to the students that all racing was suspended for the day. The wind speed at that moment was averaging 25 knots at the race area and it was maxing out to 35 at the gusts.
The safety of the sailors and that of the boats were their main concerns and the competitors seemed to be on the same page with them. No objections were opposed and everyone seized the chance to relax or visit the beautiful city of La Rochelle.
Tomorrow is the last day of the Student Yachting World Cup and the forecast does not seem to improve. Although many are those that thirst for races in order to improve their position. After all the history of this Cup is great and going back home with it, is not to be granted.
