A proposed $390 million international marine precinct at Coomera on Queensland's Gold Coast will now go through rigorous community scrutiny, after five years on the drawing board, as the State Government opens the project to public consultation. Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney has released for comment the environmental impact statement for the Gold Coast International Marine Precinct which would occupy 63.6ha. Gold Coast residents and the boating industry have been invited to have their say. Behind the project is marine proponent, Bill Barry-Cotter of Maritimo and Kevin Miller's Property Solution Group. Plans include a marine industrial zone, internal and external marinas, offices, a yacht club, restaurant and retail outlets. According to blue prints, there would be a TAFE college with a Centre of Excellence and marine-industry training. 'If approved, residents and visitors to the Gold Coast will ultimately benefit from this investment and can expect to see major improvements to the Shipper Drive site in Coomera,' Mr Seeney said. 'It will also give a welcome boost to tourism, one of the four pillars of the economy, as well as employment. Public feedback will bring us a step closer to determining whether or not the project stacks up.'
