Estate Master Sailing Team back to the 40s

'Estate Master Farr 40 - Knickerbocker Cup'    Michael Blackburn

A big week is ahead for Estate Master Sailing Team with the Farr 40 program kicking off the 2012-2013 Australian Circuit in Newcastle, whilst the match racing team will continue to race in the 2012 US Grand Slam Series in New York City with the final round at the Oakcliff Sailing Center this week.

Martin and Lisa will be back in competition for the first time since the Australian Farr 40 National Championships in March this year with the opening regatta of the 2012-2013 Australian Farr 40 Circuit makings its debut in Newcastle this weekend. The Forgacs Inner Spring Regatta 2012 will be the first of four new events created by the Australian Farr 40 Association in an attempt to keep the class racing over the Australian Summer, building up the Australian Nationals next year in Sydney. Estate Master (AUS 615) will be making the trip north for the event whilst arch rivals Kokomo (Lang Walker) and Transfusion (Guido Belgiorno-Nettis) will be in their final preparations for the Rolex Farr 40 World Championships hosted in Chicago, USA from the 17-20 September.

Martin Hill, who is the current Australian and World Farr 40 Class President commented on the new Australia circuit, 'Estate Master is stalwart about going to all major regattas in the 2012-13 line-up, including the Queensland, NSW and Tasmanian state titles' claims Hill. 'I am excited to travel to new waters and participate in the state championships wearing my blue colours. I hope these events evolve in historical terms to be an equivalent of the Foster Cup (held in the 1920’s), which saw states compete in individual regattas as a lead-up to the Nationals.'

Whilst the Farr 40 team will be busy getting racing underway in Newcastle, Estate Master’s match racing team led by Jordan Reece will compete in the final round of the 2012 US Grand Slam Series in Oyster Bay in New York City starting Thursday. The team of Matt Steven, James Sandall, Henry Kernot & Jaidan Stevens will also be sailing a 40 foot boat, using Oakcliff Sailing Center’s Swedish Match 40s in this weeks competition. Estate Master Sailing Team will be the youngest team competing in the event with an average age of 21 on board. The team will be looking to get their season back on track, average results in the past two events has plagued the teams chances at the overall Series title but Reece will be looking to hit back to his regular form having made the semi finals of six out of nine events in 2012, four of which saw the team through to the finals including their second place finish in the Alpari World Match Racing Tour Chicago Match Cup event in July.

'We are looking forward to getting back out on the water this week again for our final event in the US for the year. We have had some great results this summer here in the States and it would be nice to finish the Tour on a high. Last week we learn’t a lot about the SM40s and will be looking to use what we have learn’t to our advantage here in Oakcliff.'

Racing for the Oakcliff International will begin on Thursday with the twelve teams from eight nations competing against one another in a qualifying round robin format before quarter finals, semi finals and finals across the weekend.
