Sail-World.com : LCC sponsors 12ft Skiff out of Woollahra
LCC sponsors 12ft Skiff out of Woollahra

'12ft Skiff in action'    Nicholas Assef
Lincoln Crowne & Company (‘LCC’) is working to raise awareness of Alopecia Areata, a serious medical condition where sufferers traumatically and without explanation suddenly lose their scalp and body hair, by sponsoring another Skiff sailing out of Woollahra across the 2012-13 Season.

With the Season fast approaching the Skipper and his crew are busy getting the boat ready for what is expected to be an exciting season of epic sailing on the Harbour!

The first race of the NSW 12ft Skiff Association, the ‘Upper Harbour Championship’ on the October 6th 2012 is an important one. It represents the season launch of the sponsorship of Adam Forbes’ boat which is intended to raise awareness and money for Alopecia Areata, for which there is currently no known cause or cure. It is a symbol of the important partnership, led by Executive Director Nicholas Assef, between the NSW 12ft Skiff Association; Variety, the Children’s Charity & LCC.

LCC has sponsored the 2011 12ft NSW State Championships as well as another 12ft Skiff sailing out of Woollahra for the past few seasons. Mr. Nicholas Assef has sought to support charities and philanthropic initiatives for the last decade and this latest partnership is another example of the firm’s mission to build awareness and raise money for the incurable condition. Nicholas also contracted Alopecia Universalis – an extreme version of the Areata condition, approximately 5 years ago, and so understands the many personal issues that sufferers have to deal with on a daily basis.

The 12ft skiff is a lightweight open class, two man high performance sailing boat, which has a long tradition on Sydney Harbour. It is a development class that is sailed in NSW, QLD and New Zealand. Technological advancements in design and building techniques, sophisticated sail and hull designs, and the advantage of a-symmetrical spinnakers, have allowed modern-day 12ft Skiffs to evolve into one of the most spectacular classes on the water.

The public are encouraged to watch the race at The Lane Cove Sailing Club.

Adam Forbes is thrilled to have the support of LCC: 'We have been working hard on the boat over the off season to ensure it is in tip top racing shape and looking good for our new sponsor…Launching the 2012/13 season with the boat completed, would be a great start to the racing season.'
