The Rolex Farr 40 World Championship 15th edition marks the climax of the F40 Class season and will take place in Chicago, in the United States, from 17-20 September. Around 20 boats are expected to compete at what promises to be an exciting competition where the level playing field of one-design racing ensures the best-prepared boat and crew prevail. Rolex has been a part of this contest of skill, effort and determination since 2001.

Australia is fielding 2011 Rolex Farr 40 Worlds winner Guido Belgiorno-Nettis aboard Transfusion, as well as long-time class supporter Lang Walker on Kokomo. Wolfgang Schaefer and Struntje Light from Germany have been regulars on the F40 circuit for many years. Enfant Terrible’s owner Alberto Rossi of Italy has enlisted the professional support of Torben Grael, Brazil’s five-time Olympic medallist, round-the-world race winner and 2009 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year. Mexico’s sole entry, Flojito y Cooperando, is under the leadership of owner Eric Mergenthaler, a three-time Olympian. Charisma sails under the flag of Monaco, and owner Nico Poons is looking to put his many years of experience in one-design racing to the test, well supported by his tactician, Stu Bannatyne of New Zealand, a three-time round-the-world race winner. Turkey has two entrants, Hasip Gencer’s Asterisk UNO and Provezza 8, which is co-owned by Ergin Imre and Onur Erardag. Both Turkish boats have competed on the US F40 Circuit this year as part of their build-up to the Worlds.

Jim Richardson’s Barking Mad poses the biggest threat to Transfusion’s hope of defending its title. Richardson is a three-time winner of the Rolex Farr 40 Worlds. John Demourkas and Groovederci have shown form this season, winning the US East Coast Championship; America’s Cup winner, Cameron Appleton will be Demourkas’ tactician. Chicago is well-represented by another long-time class supporter Helmut Jahn, helming Flash Gordon, with US Sailing’s 2011 Rolex Yachtsman of the Year, Bill Hardesty, on board; the other two boats with local expertise are: Stuart Townsend’s Virago, and Norboy, sailed by Leif Sigmund and Marcus Thymian. Canada is the eighth nation featured, with Alek Krstajic and Honour.
