In the world of offshore yacht racing, they don’t get any bigger or more successful than Wild Oats XI. This is a Super Maxi yacht, launched in 2005, which has contested the Sydney to Hobart seven times, taking line honour wins five times already.

Rated as one of the fastest and best of its class in the world, Wild Oats XI has achieved an exceptional race profile by adopting only the very best products and practices in every facet of the sport of ocean racing.

This even extends to the PFDs worn by crew aboard both the Wild Oats XI and the mini maxi, Wild Oats X. The management at Wild Oats determined that they needed to keep crew safety right up to date with the latest technology, so purchased 40 Crewsaver 190 PFDs from the Survitec Group in Sydney.

'We were already using the Survitec Group to service some of our gear on Wild Oats,' crew manager John Hildebrand said. 'As Survitec are agents for Crewsaver, we took a close look at these PFDs.'

'The Crewsaver PFDs have a well deserved reputation for being a world class PFD. Our research proved that these PFDs are perfectly suited to our ocean racing needs.'

Already the Wild Oats crew members are glowing about their new inventory of Crewsaver 190 PFDs. These are light and compact. In a sport where weight and time are key performance measures, the light weight of the PFD together with the ease with which they can be donned and removed, rate very high.

And in spite of the Crewsaver 190 being a one size fits all type PFD, the Wild Oats crew have noted that the cut of the jacket is generous. These PFDs need to be worn on the outside of wet weather ocean racing gear, so it is important that the crew don’t feel constrained while wearing their Crewsaver PFD.

One of the key attributes of the Crewsaver 190 PFD is the low profile fit around the neck. This is an area where other jackets can chafe or can be bulky and uncomfortable. In this respect the crew of Wild Oats rate the Crewsaver 190 PFD a standout winner.
