Sydney yacht charter/management specialist SailCorp is offering off-season service and mooring packages for yachts from its Lavender Bay base, North Sydney.
Recognising the need for yacht owners to keep their boats turning over, aired-out, and clean in the low-use winter months, SailCorp has created full yacht management and tailored packages that provide peace of mind to owners.
The mooring and service packages can include a full-time or short-term mooring in Lavender Bay (for vessels up to 20m) along with a variety of regular checks and services such as bilge and through-hull inspections, engine fluid checks, battery level checks, engine start-up and ‘loaded running’ service, in-water hull scrubs, deck scrubbing, water tank refills and coach-house/superstructure polishing.
SailCorp managing director Fraser Vickers said many yachts suffer in the off-season as owners often can’t find the time to check their vessel and perform these crucial system checks and tests.
'Most boaters have experienced the smell of a boat that hasn’t been aired for a few months… just being opened once a week can make all the difference,' Mr Vickers said.
'An engine that doesn’t run for two or three months can develop various problems simply through lack of use.
'Leaks can happen at any moment, batteries can discharge meaning bilge pumps won’t work and the weather will harm a boat’s gelcoat if it’s not kept clean.
'It’s also important to do things like run the engine under load and spin the shaft and/or prop to ensure it remains free of too much growth.
'In some ways you have to think of a boat as a living thing that needs care to keep happy… these are simple things to do but take time that many owners don’t have in the winter season.'
SailCorp’s professional team can also facilitate shipwright and mechanical work, slipping and antifoul, rigging inspections and insurance surveys.

Monthly packages for the yacht management service start from $150 and one-off servicing is also available by request. Tailored packages can be arranged based on an owner’s specific needs.
