Cork Olympic Class Regatta (OCR) 2012 kicks off in Ontario today, August 18th running until August 22nd, with eight fleets and 241 competitors. The fleets include the two person boats, I14, 49er and 29er. The one person boats include, Finn, Laser, Laser Radial Female, Laser Radial Open and the Kites. We have athletes representing six countries; Canada, the United States, France, New Zealand, Mexico and Brazil. This should be, as always, a very exciting regatta.

We have a number of Olympians just getting back from London; Luke Ramsay who sailed the 470 in London, is taking a turn in a Laser Radial. Gordon Cook, who sailed the 49er in London, is out today on the stadium course and Greg Douglas, who sailed the Finn in London, is here as well.

It should be an exciting battle out on the Finn Course with Greg Douglas, our Olympian and Martin Robitaille just having won Finn Youth worlds in France, pushing each other and the rest of their co-competitors. We go from the battle of the young guns to one of the most experienced Finn sailors in the world. With over 45 years of racing a Finn, Cork is thrilled to have August Miller from Portsmouth, Road Island.

New to Cork this year, we have introduced a stadium course to our event, giving the spectators and fans an opportunity to see the athletes in action. Our course sits right off the break water in Portsmouth Harbour and different boats will be rotated to it each day. Today we have the fast International 14s and the 49ers. Come down to Cork, enjoy the sun and the excitement of watching some of the best sailors in the world.
