Transat Québec Saint-Malo fleet enjoy the conditions

'A happy crew on third-placed Eole Generation - GDF SUEZ skippered by Sebastien Rogues - Transat Québec Saint-Malo 2012'    Transat Québec Saint-Malo
On Transat Québec Saint-Malo 13th day of racing the remaining boats are profiting from the good sailing conditions in the Atlantic, with a pleasant south-westerly allowing them to approach Saint Malo quickly.

The pontoons are getting more and more crowded as only seven teams are still at sea and since yesterday morning the boats have been crossing the line in rapid succession. Last to finish so far were Class40 Sevenstar Yachttransport and Latitude Neige – Longitude Mer in 13th and 14th respectively, but the latest ETAs show that the public will go on welcoming the tired but contented sailors well into Monday.

No sooner one team docks in and starts narrating the 11/12 days long voyage across the Atlantic, another one is crossing the line just off the old city of Saint Malo. Some minutes before Aurélien Ducroz's Latitude Neige-Longitude Mer came in in fourteenth place it was Jean-Edouard Criquioche and his multinational crew's turn to complete their race with just a tiny 31 minutes gap between the two boats. It is no doubt double world freeride ski champion Aurélien Ducroz to express the highest satisfaction and relief as his result was absolutely unexpected, due to the many technical issues on board Latitude Neige-Longitude Mer and namely a broken rudder only two days ago that menaced to shatter all hopes for Aurélien to finish his first transatlantic race.

Jean-Edouard Criquioche on finished in 13th winning in the 'vintage' category composed of the six boats launched between 2006 and 2007 beating David Augeix's EDF Energies Nouvelles, Louis Duc's Avis Immobilier, Benoit Parnaudeau's Transport Cohérance, Denis Van Weynbergh's Proximedia and Persévérance skippered by Quebecker Robert Patenaude that are expected to get to Saint Malo starting from tonight and up until Monday afternoon.

Class40 fourth-placed Geodis led by Fabrice Amedeo - Transat Québec Saint-Malo 2012 -  Transat Québec Saint-Malo

Seven boats are still racing, among which the Open class 65' Océan Phénix skippered by Georges Leblanc, and more than half of the Class40 fleet is moored on the pontoons in Saint Malo. Since yesterday morning the Race Committee has been busy recording the finishing times of the boats coming in: Fabrice Amedeo's Geodis, Belgian crew on Roaring Forty 2, Comiris Elior, IX Blue, Jack in the Box, Groupe Picoty, Germany's Red and American flagged Bodacious Dream. The first Class40 team from Québec, Eric Tabardel's Bleu is expected tomorrow morning at around 9am and it is easy to predict that the crew will receive a very warm welcome. But first the fans will have to greet David Augeix's EDF Energies Nouvelles that should reach Saint Malo during the night, and other five teams that according to the last position report should be Avis Immobilier at around 10am, Transport Cohérance at around noon, the Open class Océan Phénix at 7pm and Denis Van Weynbergh's Proximedia before midnight. The last boat on the line should be Québec's Persévérance skippered bu Robert Patenaude on Monday afternoon.

To note that, despite the harsh conditions the fleet came across in the Atlantic, there were no abandons. Bravo to the 103 sailors and thank you for the show.
