Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania re-elects Graham Taplin as Commodore

Commodore Graham Taplin last evening began his third term of office as the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, elected unopposed as senior Flag Officer at the Club’s 131st annual general meeting.
Richard Batt joins Commodore Taplin as Vice Commodore and Ross V de Little as Rear Commodore. They were also elected unopposed. They replace Vice Commodore Roger Martin and Rear Commodore John Menadue, neither of whom sought re-election after two years in office.
Vice Commodore Martin had also been chairman of the Sailing Committee and acting sailing manager for various periods during that time.
More than 60 Members attended the annual general meeting at which Commodore Taplin spoke of the need for more, younger members of the club. He urged Members to actively seek active sailors to join the club.
The RYCT is heading towards another major racing season on the Derwent, for keelboats, sportsboats and dinghy classes.
In early November it will conduct the Audi Showdown, a major regatta for all types of boats and at the end of December will again host the finish of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
A strong Tasmanian contingent is expected to contest the ocean classic, including Tony Lyall’s TP52 Cougar II, which this coming weekend is competing in the Audi Sydney Gold Coast Race.
In early January the RYCT will conduct the Audi Australian championships for the International Laser class, include Laser Standard rigs, Radials, 4.7s and Masters.
Immediately following will be the OAMPS Australian Youth Championships and both events are expected to attract up to 200 entries.
