Skipper Simeon Tienpont and the team AkzoNobel training crew arrived in the Netherlands earlier this evening following a four-day delivery from Lisbon to The Hague onboard their Volvo Ocean 65. The journey of nearly 2,000km was the first opportunity for Tienpont to put his potential crew through a series of offshore training tests ahead of the next edition of the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-2018.

The team received a warm welcome as they docked at Scheveningen near The Hague, which will be the team’s home port. Tienpont will continue his crew selection training in the North Sea for the next two weeks before the return delivery back to the Volvo Ocean Race Boatyard in Lisbon, Portugal.

“It was a great feeling to be sailing team AkzoNobel into home waters this evening and to be welcomed so warmly,” said Tienpont. “It’s been a busy four-day sail, with not much rest for the guys, but a great opportunity for me to look at how we are developing as a crew and to start to finalize who will join team AkzoNobel for the race. We’ve another couple of weeks training here before we sail the boat back to Lisbon, another good opportunity to test us all. We are all looking forward to a break at the end of the month before the next phase of work starts in early January.”
