Rallye des Iles du Soleil 2017 to Marie-Galante in Guadeloupe Islands

by Grand Pavois on 25 Aug 2016 A new rally open to amateur sailors is now proposed by Grand Pavois Organisation with a route from Madeira to Marie-Galante in the Island of Guadeloupe. Gatherings will be available in two French ports, one in Charente-Maritime for the Atlantic fleet and one in La Ciotat (Aix-Marseilles Provence Metropolis) for Mediterranean boats, in order to help the fleets reach Funchal (Madeira/Portugal).

Of course, they are free to make their own way to the Portuguese island before the start of the Rallye des Iles du Soleil (RIDS) to Marie-Galante in the Islands of Guadeloupe at the start of November 2017. Another event in the event, a gathering will also be organised at the Grand Pavois La Rochelle 2017 in order to present this first RIDA to Guadeloupe to as many participants as possible, and to open registrations for the 2019 event.

Officially launched at the forthcoming leading in-water boat show for real fans, the RIDS will have a stand at the show where interested crews will be able to find out about the information required to register. It should be noted that Grand Pavois Organisation wants to open registrations to 80 boats, both French and foreign monohulls and multihulls. Every day, at 4 pm in the Press Space of the Grand Pavois La Rochelle, an official presentation of this new Rallye des Iles du Soleil by Grand Pavois Organisation will be organised (prior registration at the Rallye des Iles du Soleil stand, Hall A Stand L 24). It should also be noted that the Rallye des Iles du Soleil will have a space at the forthcoming Nautic Show in Paris at the Grand Pavois Organisation stand.

Funchal in Madeira, departure port
Funchal will be the departure port for this first RIDS to Guadeloupe. Located in the sub-tropical zone, Madeira is famous for its mild climate all the year round and is ideal as the departure point for any transatlantic crossing to Guadeloupe with its fully-equipped port, an international airport and a good quality tourism infrastructure. Funchal Naval Club, a partner of Grand Pavois Organisation, has already agreed to welcome the boats over a long period of time in order to allow all the necessary preparations and any crew rotations required under the best possible conditions.

A truly authentic island, Marie-Galante is a land of rural traditions which cultivates an exceptional way of life. Marie-Galante is proving to be the new destination in the French Antilles. Covering a surface area of 158 km², the island, which is commonly called the 'grande galette' owing to its circular shape and low-lying relief (editor's note, the highest peak, the Morne Constant, rises to 204 m), has three municipalities and 12,410 inhabitants. Marie-Galante, which has up to 106 windmills, is also called the 'island of one hundred windmills' or the 'Grande dépendance'. Marie-Galante, the arrival island for this transatlantic event, will be happy to welcome the fleet as it deserves and will provide a wonderful departure point for those wishing to discover the other islands in the Guadeloupe archipelago!
