A bucket of salt water on the deck used to be the only sensible way to alleviate some effects of the diesel spills that inevitably hit the deck when filling your tanks. A high level blue-green algal alert has been issued today for the Bombah Broadwater foreshore, Bombah Point and lower Myall River above Tea Gardens - Myall Lakes, by the NSW Hunter Regional Algal Coordinating Committee. Neutral Bay ferry wharf on Sydney's north harbour shore will be demolished and replaced by an all-weather, disabled-access wharf in an $8.3 million upgrade starting this month. 'The existing wharf and jetty structure will be completely demolished during the closure to make way for the new facility, while the heritage archway will be retained' NSW Roads and Ports Minister Duncan Gay said.

The New Zealand Government have said they will not take action to rescue a a boat maintenance worker who was apparently accidentally taken to sea on board a Norwegian yacht whose skipper had just been deported. The yacht has no EPIRB on board and was headed to the Antarctic. Depending on weather conditions, the yacht may have already reached the Southern continent.

Mystery surrounds the disappearance overboard of a Manly (Brisbane) sailor and his life jacket from his yacht Woden V. With their boat taking on water after having struck rocks, Des Stanaway, a member of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, told his rescuers not to worry, that Woden V would wait on a sandbank overnight and arrange to be towed home in the morning.

Once again the potential for inaccuracy by GPS equipment has been illustrated. Three sailors who were using GPS for night navigation were forced to abandon their boat when it hit rocks not far from Nelson on the South Island of New Zealand this week. They 'thought they were in the middle of the bay by the GPS' but weren't and hit the rocks.
