New rally across the Atlantic for 2013: Christmas Caribbean Rally

'Christmas Caribbean Rally route'    .

When the trade winds are well established, when the risk of hurricanes is long past, when it's holiday time, that's when the Christmas Caribbean Rally will depart from Lanzarote in the Canary Islands for Antigua in the Caribbean - in mid-December 2013.

The voyage will begin in Marina Rubicon Lanzarote and end in the crystal clear turquoise waters of Jolly Harbour, Antigua!

What newly formed Sailing Rallies says about themselves:
Sailing Rallies is run by a team of experienced ocean sailors. We understand the sacrifices that have to be made to participate in extraordinary events like these. We also understand the enjoyment and satisfaction to be had when you arrive in a faraway harbour; experiencing the sights and sounds of another land.

We work hard to make all our events accessible to everyone, encouraging participation from people of all ages and backgrounds.

The Christmas Caribbean Rally 2013 is an exciting new sailing rally crossing the Atlantic, taking place at the end of 2013. The CCR will leave Marina Rubicon, Lanzarote on Monday 16th December 2013 and participants will sail the 2850 miles to arrive in Jolly Harbour, Antigua in the New Year.

We have set the timing of this Transatlantic crossing to use the natural rhythm of the seasons to optimum effect; when the trade winds are likely to be fully established and the hurricane season is behind us. By holding the rally over the Christmas holiday period, we hope sailors from all walks of life will be able to participate. We also hope that by coinciding with school and college holidays, families with children of all ages will join the rally. We aim to make the Christmas Caribbean Rally an inclusive, unique event. What an exciting way to spend Christmas and New Year!
For those of you who are staying on in the Caribbean, you will have arrived at the start of the season, in plenty of time to explore before the carnival or sailing regatta season start.

The only trans-Atlantic rally that runs at that time of year currently is the long-established ARC. From personal experience there are as many or more yachts who cross the Atlantic from Europe to the Caribbean at the end of the hurricane season who are NOT in the ARC as there are taking part. There's plenty of potential participants for another rally.
