Najad sailing boats scoop the pool in Swedish environmental awards

'Najad 355'    .
If you are searching for a yacht that is environmentally the best, it seems that you may have to consider the Najad. The Swedish Yachting Association has selected the Najad 355 in the sailing boat category for the award Environmental Boat of the Year 2009, and the Najad 505 has also received the award as Swedish Boating Association's Environmental Sailing Boat of the year.

The Environmental Boat of the Year award is intended to encourage boat makers to continuously evolve the environmental profile of their products, ensuring they have the lowest possible impact on the environment both during production and when in use.

The Najad is the boat that long range cruising sailor Jeanne Socrates has chosen for her ocean circling journeys, first the Najad 361, now the Najad 380. There must be something good about them!

Two powerboats were awarded prizes in the same category, the Nimbus 27 Nova S and Whisper 55, and they were all awarded for modern production technology and reduced environmental impact in various ways.

The Swedish Boating Association also announced that their Environmental Motor Boat of the Year was the Greenline 33 motorcruiser.

'Selecting an Environmental Boat of the Year is fully in line with the environmental work the Swedish Yachting Association has been conducting for almost 40 years,' says Bengt Hallberg, Chairman of the Environmental Committee for the Swedish Yachting Association. 'It’s one way of demonstrating the boating scene’s commitment to nature and the environment. We are part of outdoor life in Sweden, and as such we have a vested interest in helping to ensure a sound marine environment.'
