'Dirty fuel can cause major problems'
.

This week's product of the week addresses a major problem for cruising sailors, especially when they start to leave home waters, or even as a result of the use of marine fuel containing Ethanol, in jurisdictions where that applies. It's the contamination of fuel. The MLS Fuel Purifier protects engines and generators from the insidious, costly and potentially catastrophic effects of diesel fuel contamination. The MLS Fuel Purifier can prolong filter life by up to six times and is already widely used in the construction industry by many plant hire companies and is becoming standard fit by an increasing number of equipment dealers. The MLS Fuel Purifier is not a filter. So how does it work? When the fuel enters the unit the baffles in the system immediately induce a swirling action, which causes water and solid contaminants to separate out of the fuel. The contaminants sink to the base of the unit where they are retained - the contaminants are simply drained and disposed of when the system is full. An optional sensor can be supplied to indicate this. The sensor can be linked to the MLS communication systems so that drain requirements can be identified from any PC, globally.
 | How it works - .. . | The incidence of 'diesel bug' is growing as governments round the world begin to demand percentages of bio-diesel to be used Effects of diesel fuel contamination include:- -Fuel tank erosion due to acid release -Clogged or damaged injectors, intakes and filters -Engine starting & performance problems -Excessive engine wear -Engine misfiring and lower power output -Corrosion of fuel system and engine components -Wear to fuel injection system parts or explosive damage to fuel injectors -Accelerated fuel oxidation -Failure! Water in your fuel can cause: -Engine misfiring and lower output causes fuel injectors to get clogged and injector spray patterns to be affected. -Wear to fuel injector and pumps: Water is a very poor lubricant and metal on metal contact occurs resulting in scuffing and wear -Corrosion of fuel system and engine parts: Steel components will rust in the presence of water -Explosive damage to fuel injectors: The combustion process will superheat any water present which can cause injector tips to be 'blown off' Acceleration of fuel oxidisation: The oxygen in water acts to speed up the process of fuel deterioration.
 | System specifications - there are larger models for larger engines - .. . | This is a new product, and distributors are being set up all over the world. According to Sean Millar, Director of the company, they have had an amazing response since the product launch. They currently have distributors in New Zealand, Middle East, West Africa and several in Europe. They are also looking for many more distributors so that the product can be supported locally. In the meantime, they are currently adding an online purchasing option to the website to ensure they can meet demand until they are happy with their international distribution network.
