Sail-World.com : Tiny company with world reach wins 'Best of the Best' Excellence Award

Tiny company with world reach wins 'Best of the Best' Excellence Award

'ICS spread of business with only ten employees'    .

A world-wide specialist marine electronics company with only ten employees and based in West Sussex in the UK has won multiple awards including 'Best of the Best' at British Engineering Excellence Awards 2011, proving again that you don't have to be big to be excellent.

The Judges found ICS Electronics Limited’s entry 'deeply impressive'. One said: 'I couldn’t believe that such an influential company has only 10 full time employees.' And all Judges agreed that, while influencing legislation is tough for a small company, ICS has developed a product with global reach.

The company has been awarded Grand Prix Winner 'Best of the Best' as well as 'Best Small Company of the Year' at the 2011 British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEA), ousting much bigger companies for the top award.

The BEEA are designed to recognise and promote the quality of engineering design within the UK, enabling smaller companies to compete on an even platform with larger ones. This year’s event was held on the 13th October at the London Globe Theatre, and over 50 UK companies were shortlisted to receive an award.

ICS's Managing Director, Kevin Page, said 'I was genuinely surprised to have won today as prestigious industry awards frequently overlook small UK businesses. BEEA must be highly commended for adopting a judging structure that is all inclusive. One of the benefits of small companies, for example, is that I was able to personally thank every member of staff for their part in these highly deserved awards'

About I.C.S. Electronics Limited:
I.C.S Electronics is a specialist marine electronics company operating in Coast Stations, Commercial and Leisure markets. Their systems include GMDSS, DSC, VHF, MF, HF and NAVTEX

What they say about themselves:
For over 25 years ICS Electronics have set themselves apart from the competition by focusing only on marine communications. We therefore fully understand the technical and operational environment for civil and military maritime applications, MRCCs, ports and harbours and the oil and gas industry. The benefit to our customers is that they receive clearly explained, accurate and specialist advice in the field of marine communications that are fit for purpose. Our products and services range from turn-key fully integrated solutions for an MRCC or Coast Station, to the supply of a new paper roll for a NAVTEX receiver.

ICS Electronics do not just sell equipment and services; we actively participate in promoting and helping set industry best practice through international committees, maritime organisations and technical forums around the world including IMO, ETSI, IEC, ITU, IALA. ICS Electronics is often consulted by international/national agencies and administrations for guidance on marine communication issues.

ICS Electronics, a West Sussex marine company with only ten employees, has beaten national competition at this year’s prestigious British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEA), to scoop both the highly acclaimed Gran d Prix award, as well as the 2011 Small Business of the Year award.

Established in 1982, ICS Electronics has gained itself an enviable reputation as one of the most experienced suppliers of marine communications systems. The company operates within the coast station, commercial and leisure markets to provide turnkey solutions for Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems (GMDSS), Digital Selective Calling (DSC), VHF, MF, HF radio communication and NAVTEX.
ICS Electronics was recognised by the panel of judges for its exceptional business structure within a highly competitive market. With just ten employees, the company has still managed to install more Digital Selective Calling and NAVTEX systems than any other company. With 85% of its turnover coming from export, ICS Electronics has continually invested in product development to secure global recognition for its marine communication systems, which are now widely used in 55 countries by over 1000 operators. In addition the company helps to set industry best-practise by participating in international committees, maritime organisations and technical forums. As a result it is regularly consulted by international agencies for guidance on marine communication issues.
One of the judges said: 'I couldn’t believe that such an influential company only has ten employees – it’s deeply impressive, and I am particularly impressed that a product with global reach is from a small UK company'.
Peter Batt, Business Development Manager at ICS Electronics said: 'We are absolutely delighted that ICS has been recognised by the British Engineering Excellence Awards. We have a strong and long track record, good repeat business, market specific products, competitive prices, high quality products and high levels of customer satisfaction.'
