Darwin to Ambon Rally 2012 - time to start planning

Almost every month of the year, somewhere in the world, there's a cruising rally, usually in conjunction with a race for those who are competitively minded. Long range cruisers who have passed through the Pacific Ocean will find that entry into a rally from Australia to Indonesia eases the way into Asian waters with an automatic cruising permit. So that makes the Darwin to Ambon Rally even more alluring than it would be anyway.

The next Darwin to Ambon Rally departs from Darwin on 25th August, 2012, so there's plenty of time to plan to be there.

Much onshore celebration as well -  .. .

Here are some highlights of the 2011 event:

Many yachts enter the event as an opportunity to process their travel documents to journey onwards to explore some of the amazing 17,000 islands of the Indonesian Archipelago.

At a wonderful Maluku Evening at the Indonesian Embassy in Darwin with music, dance and food participants had many opportunities to meet, share their stories, build friendships and begin to plan their weeks ahead sailing through Indonesia.

The sailing was good, with 19 yachts participating, some racing, some cruising, all enjoying the voyage.

On arrival there was much celebration as well. The Welcoming Ceremony began with a Becak Tour of Ambon City and the presentation of gifts to the three Primary Schools of Amahusu Village. Dancing, music, much laughter and good food followed where the participants mingled and shared their stories, their blow-outs and adventures.

The Mayor’s Reception & Gala Dinner for the participants was held at the beautiful and rich residence of the Mayor of Ambon City, and hosted by the Mayor of Ambon City, Bapak Papilaya. See some of the photos and read some of the stories that made the evening a great success.

The week finished with the Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race & Rally Presentation Ceremony. Awards were presented, tributes were made and congratulations were given to all participants, supporters and partners.

The Presentation Ceremony may have been the final, official function for the participants of 2011 – but, the adventures were just beginning. Friendships then took yachties to many neighbouring islands and other fantastic destinations throughout the Maluku Province and Indonesian Archipelago.
