Christchurch Earthquake: Donation details - Official Fund

Sail-World has spoken to one of the assessors, Graeme Robinson, on the still shaking ground at Christchurch. Graeme is also a Yachting NZ Board member, Napier Sailing Club member and well known Flying Fifteen sailor.

He advises that the damage in Christchurch is far, far more serious and extensive than the previous earthquake in September, and the situation is ongoing. As he spoke to Sail-World he was watching a cliff about to fall on a dozen or so houses.

He does not believe that there will be any sailing or sport in Christchurch for some time.

The New Zealand Government has this morning established an official disaster fund for assistance of the people of Christchurch. The death toll is expected to be approximately 200 people from 20 countries. Rectification of the damage is expected to be NZD20 billion (USD15billion) - which covers only property damage and not the personal financial damage and loss of income and restart costs - which the Appeal fund will cover.

While the time will come to help get yacht clubs and sailing back on its feet, that time is not now, and the best thing that we can to is give money to the official fund which may be accessed by clicking here?nid=80799

Or if you would like to donate to those providing assistance on the ground at Christchurch the full list is set out here?nid=80799

Sail-World is more than happy to provide our resources and worldwide sailing network to help the people, and especially the sailors of Christchurch, in these traumatic times.
