Windfarms to populate UK's sailing seas - the debate rages
|
The debate rages. Hornsea is a small seaside resort in Yorkshire, England at the eastern end of the Trans Pennine Trail, with just over 8000 people and a reputation for pottery, but its cliff-based shoreline is about to become the hub for major wind farming, extending far off-shore. Will this affect sailing? UK residents, including sailors, are being asked for their opinions about the projected wind farms, which are between 15 and 100nm offshore. Whilst the Royal Yachting Association is lobbying at a national level to ensure the safety of navigation through all wind farms, they are saying that it is of equal importance that all UK sailors make their views heard at the local level as part of the developer’s statutory local community consultation process. SMart Wind is now conducting formal public consultations until 13th March 2013 under the Planning Act 2008 on its first and second offshore wind farm projects - Project One and Project Two within the Hornsea Round Three offshore wind farm zone. The zone is off the Yorkshire coast, adjacent to the River Humber. For more information go to the RYA website.
