CYCA donates to Marine Rescue, Great Keppel revives, Kiwi solo at 79
 | | Ron Daw, photo by Rebecca Ryan, Oamaru Mail . | Great to see $36,400 being donated to Marine Rescue by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) to advance its DSC radio coverage and considerably advance sailing safety along the east coast of Australia.
Great Keppel Island is in the news with a $600 million new development just approved. They are claiming very high environment standards and a certification by Green Globe. Let's hope the promises turn out to be true.
Lots of challenge solving solutions in this weeks edition of Sail World Cruising: You could find Shipstik the solution to your berthing challenges; Boat Beacon has just proved its worth when some sailors were fog bound and lost their instruments at the same time; John Jamieson has a handy little acronym of STOP to rescue you from potential navigational mistakes; and iPads and iPhones are getting so popular as navigation back ups in a cockpit that it's worth having a secure connection for them – featured this week.
If you are in the Caribbean and sailing anywhere within reach of the British Virgin Islands you should consider joining the Caribbean Rendezvous - what a wonderful destination and a great reason to head there!
 | | Virgin Gorda is the place for the Caribbean Rendezvous this season .. . |
Adventurers are in the news too. One British solo sailor is preparing to take to the Atlantic Ocean solo in a 6.5m Mini Transat to raise money – read why; and there's a 79-year-old New Zealander who has just set out to circumnavigate the world solo, hoping to set a new record as the oldest ever circumnavigator.
She's not human, but Sedov, one of the largest tallships in the world is over 90 and she's half way through her own circumnavigation, with a little help from 200 naval cadets.
Much more too, so browse down the headlines below to find your interest.
Sweet sailing!
