Welcome to Sail-World Canada
One-Design racing is top at KWRW!
 | | Melges 32 big fleet starting line action - Key West 2012 - Melges 32 ©2012 JOY | International Melges 32 Class Association | While not much has changed in the ranking at the front of the Vendée Globe fleet, it's been a challenging week for the grouping that still further back in the South Atlantic where fickle winds or good breeze from the wrong direction have caused the skippers to try various routes in order to keep their yacht moving towards Les Sables d'Olonnes. Mike Golding explains: 'We are looking at five days added to the route, potentially, by the problems in the South Atlantic, that puts extra pressure on everything – fuel, food...'. The more fortunate ones at the front almost have the finish line in their sight!

It's definitely all about the One-Design classes at Quantum Key West Race Week this year; Melges 24, Melges 32 and, for the first time at KWRW, nearly 40 new J/70's make up more than half the entire racing fleet. Farr 40's and Swan 42's will also be racing each other, while the newer Farr 400 will race OD and duke it out against a handful of other fast 40-footers in the High Performance Class. Racing started today and J/70 racers were definitely scoping each other out.
In America's Cup circles, Emirates Team New Zealand is getting ready to launch their second AC72 catamaran of February 4th. An evolution from their first design, the new boat includes a number of small changes and improvements rather than a significant departure from their original yacht.

On the topic of high performance sailing, Extreme Sailing Series organizers have announced the eight world-class teams that will participate in the 2013 series, including a new Swiss team and the return of the popular invitational home team at each of the race locations. Countdown to Act 1 in Muscat, Oman is 42 days!
In other racing news, Recife will be the first stopover in the 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race; the city and surrounding state of Pernambuco, Brazil will also be represented on the water as they become the second official entry in the race. This continues the long-standing tradition between Brazil and the VOR.
Finally, Sail-World is gearing up to provide its most comprehensive coverage ever when the America's Cup comes to San Francisco this summer; marine industry stakeholders who are looking to promote products and services can take advantage of this great opportunity. Contact us for more details.
All the best!
