Welcome to Sail-World Canada
The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is on!
 | | Wild Oats XI, big boats are favourite in the 2012 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race Andrea Francolini / Rolex © | It's that time of year again; crews and yachts are getting ready down under for the annual boxing ritual as they keep an eye on the weather forecast for the 2012 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. The 68th edition of the iconic event promises to bring the usual excitement for a fleet ranging from line honour favourite Wild Oats XI, A Reichel-Pugh 100 to a number of much smaller thirty some footers. They come from all over the world, some, like the former Volvo 60 Ambersail, have even traveled from as far as Lithuania to join the fleet in Sydney Harbour.

Sail-World will bring you all the stories and images as the yachts set sail on December 26th!
The situation hasn't changed much in the Vendée Globe as Gabart and Le Cléac'h, the two leaders, are pretty much copying each other's every move. Earlier this week, Bernard Stamm on Cheminées Poujoulat opted to stop at the Auckland Islands to perform some much needed repairs on his hydro generators; a problem that has plagued him since sailing along the Portuguese coast many weeks ago. As a result, he has let Alex Thompson take over fourth place in the race.

Back home, we have received fantastic news from the Sail Canada offices; Canadians will chair three committees at the International Sailing Federation and six others will be involved as regular committee members. A great opportunity for Canada to help shape the future of the sport of sailing.
Merry Christmas to all!
