After three weeks and some 6000 miles, it's neck and neck at the front of the single-handed round-the-world Vendée Globe race; after playing musical chair for the lead over the past few days, Jean-Pierre Dick, François Gabart and Armel Le Cléac'h are now running side by each towards the first ice gate located just South of the Cape of Good Hope. While we saw record braking days earlier this week; the days ahead promise to be challenging with uncertain weather patterns; the back of the fleet might find themselves falling further behind if the breeze shuts down on them. Definitely a very exciting race to watch as no one has walked away with the lead yet!

The biggest news in America's Cup circles comes from challenger of record Artemis Racing as they unexpectedly announced major changes in their after guard earlier this week. Skipper Terry Hutchinson, who has been around since the early days of the team, is now gone and newcomers Iain Percy, Nathan Outteridge and Santiago Lange will join the team, along with multi-hull specialist Loick Peyron.

The final race of the Extreme Sailing Series 2012 season is all set to go in Rio de Janeiro next week; the action should be plentiful as fans cheer recently announced wild card Team Brazil lead by none other than Torben Grael, Brazil's most successful Olympian.
Nominees for the Sail Canada annual awards were announced last Wednesday; the awards will be presented at the annual Sail Canada Rolex Sailor of the Year celebration on January 19th in Toronto.
Those who expressed some interest following our Sea Survival article last week will be pleased to hear that a training session is planned for April 14-15 in Toronto; the event will be hosted by the Royal Canadian Yacht Club. Mark your calendar and stay tuned for more details.
