Of course, of most significance, the proclamation of the network of marine parks around the continent by Environment Minister Tony Burke, covering more than 2.3 million square km of ocean.
The National Seafood industry Alliance and other bodies representing recreational and commercial have put their cases forward and are hopeful of negotiating with the Minister on the compensation packages for those businesses impacted by the changes.
We will keep up with all the views and developments, so send us your own experiences and responses to the newly declared marine park zones.
A couple of interesting features this week – the first, welcoming a new heliport to Sydney Harbour, catering to a boom in cruising, yachting and international visitors to the Harbour City and making business and tourism more accessible.

The other, which is an indication of the rising interest in boating in Asia, is the start of works on the Philippines most significant project for decades – Alphaland Marina Club. The marina consultant/designer behind the project, Joe Goddard, will no doubt be well known by many Australian, NZ and UAE readers. Here, he provides a unique overview of what he predicts will be a major yachting hub in Asia.

In Auckland, the marine industry and broader community are anticipating the flow on of benefits from the 2013 NZ Millennium Cup, to be sailed on the waters of the Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf. International research shows, while here, the fleet will make a very significant contribution to the economy both in terms of revenue from the event and in long-term investment in tourism and trade.

Ellie Brade, editor of Superyacht Intelligence and Pacific Editor at the highly-respected The Superyacht Group said: 'New Zealand has a sterling reputation as a superyacht construction, refit and cruising destination', a reputation that is enhanced by events of the stature of the NZ Millennium Cup. In 2010, superyachts contributed €24bn to the global economy. New Zealand is attuned to the trend and catering to this lucrative segment - and they are forerunners in innovating and adapting to meet the demands and pique the interest of this discerning market.
Plenty more, including product launches, Christmas offers and snippets from brands and boating identities the worldover.
Thank you for your emails and contributions. Please keep them flowing over the holidays.
Until next week, happy boating!Jeni Bone, editor
