The eyes of the sailing world are on the International Sailing Federation's Annual Conference to see whether the sport's ruling body, the ISAF Council, does have a change of heart and re-instates the Windsurfer, or sticks to its controversial decision from May, and stays with the Kiteboards.
Not unexpectedly the Events Committee which met on Wednesday stuck to its May decision and voted for the reinstatement of Windsurfing and the RS:X board.

Quite which way the ISAF Council will go remains to be seen. We will carry reports from Ireland - when significant decisions are made.
Last up from Ireland will be the election for President of ISAF - with three contenders vying for the role of leader of the world of sailing. We carry a video from one of those, David Kellett (AUS) in this issue.

On Tuesday night NZT the Rolex Male and Female Sailor of the Year were announced. Most would have expected quadruple Olympic Gold medalist, Ben Ainslie (GBR) to have scooped the pool in the Mens line-up. But the Womens winner was a surprise to some - we have a report and videos in this edition of Sail-World.
Back in New Zealand there is plenty of sailing action, with the start of the NZ Match Racing Championships, organised by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, we have a report on Day 1, in this edition of Sail-World.com's newsletter.

Emirates Team NZ haven't been idle while their AC72 is being hotted up at the team's Halsey Street base. Recently they went through training to try and give an impression of jumping 14 metres from the top hull of a capsized AC72. The nearest they could get was a 10 metre board - which looked as high as they wanted to go for some of the team.
In this edition we have photos and video from the session - it's well put together and puts a bit of a wry smile on your face.
There's also a two part discussion on AC72 design issues from ETNZ's chief designer, Nick Holroyd from an interview with Dave Reed of top US sailing magazine, Sailing World. Another must read for America's Cup fans who want to understand more of these exciting boats.

If you want to watch some gripping video, have a look at the Yamaha Bridge to Bridge Water Ski Classic, where a new record was set, by water skiers travelling at speeds of more than 160km/hr - that's over 86kts!
Busfield Marine Brokers have announced the newest and largest in the Bavaria line the Cruiser 56. designed by the Farr office, this latest in the Bavaria fleet has great lines, and as can be seen from the graphics has a number of great features down below .

On the top of this page we feature an image of a Laser sailing with a carbon mast developed by a New Zealand group. Details will be announced over the next couple of days, and sail-World did a photo-shoot over last couple of days of this latest piece of kit.
It is aimed at the recreational Laser racer, and will be priced very competitively alongside the current aluminum mast.
The key advantages being the light weight - which means that the Laser is very easy to rig, as lifting the mast with sail attached becomes a much simpler exercise.
The days of bent Laser masts are also gone, as the carbon spar is a lot more resilient than the standard alloy kit. Of course, the new spars won't be legal for Championship racing, but for training, club racing and just having fun sailing, they are hard to go past.

The carbon spar will also be offered as just a top section - fitting into the current Laser bottom section. But to be honest if the price is as cheap as we are told, then it is hard to see anything less than a full rig being purchased.
The precedent has of course been set with non-standard gear for the club Lasers, with Rooster Sails being readily available, along with other manufactures.
