Sailing the Southern Ocean with kids - crazy or brave?
 | | Babies on board - it's Anasazi . | While there are many families, mostly with quite small children, sailing the oceans of the world and home schooling them, there aren't too many children in the Southern Ocean. Read this week an excerpt from the pen of a mother who is six months pregnant with her third child and is sailing the Southern Ocean with her children, 4 and 2, in an Open 40.
The Open 40 is definitely a racing – not a cruising – boat. It is the same kind of boat that turned sixteen-year-old Abby Sunderland into a rescue case rather than a circumnavigator when she was dismasted in the Southern Ocean a couple of years ago. So, are they crazy, or just brave? What do you think?
Lots of 'new stuff' in this week's edition. Top of the list is the TeamO tether/lifejacket combination, which will keep a sailor's head out of the water if he is being dragged by the tether.
The yacht feature is on the Beneteau Sense 55; Furuno is in the news with their 205th award for its innovative and excellent quality products; and Bavaria is presenting their great new offering, the Bavaria Cruiser 56 and reintroducing the 33.
That's just the beginning, so browse down the headlines to find your interest.
Sweet Sailing!

They sailed to France, Cape Town, then across the Southern Ocean to Western Australia. Here is an excerpt of their leg in the Southern Ocean from Fremantle heading east.... [more] Share this story
