No two weeks are the same, and when I'm not tidying up media releases and chasing story leads our readers send (thank you!), I sometimes emerge for a jaunt around the Broadwater, or a trip OS somewhere that reminds me, like Dorothy found out, 'there's no place like home'.

So this week, as I popped up to Southport Yacht Club, where I am a newly minted member, to visit Captain Dave on the jaw-dropping Flamingo Bay, I gave thanks to the Saint who dishes out vocations.
Flamingo Bay, represented by broker Ian Swan, is a marvel and a tribute to her original owners, the Belgian government, for their foresight to build her tougher than nails, and to her present owner, David Tomlinson, who has painstakingly brought her in to the 21st century with electrics, electronics and mod-cons, while preserving her Flemish charms.

This is the ideal vessel for adventure and ocean tourism operators, explorers, documentary makers, divers and researchers. Check out the story and be amazed that all this could be yours for just $2.2m + GST - a price drop of 50%.

Lots of news to report, including great first impressions of the inaugural Rivergate International Boat Show on the water in Brisbane's Murarrie, which attracted steady crowds from Friday to Sunday. As we await the post-show report, initial murmurs are that it is the ideal venue, very well organised and an event that deserves to have legs.

A good boost to sailing is in the wind, with Discover Sailing Day in Victoria, Sunday 11 November. The initiative aims to introduce people of all ages who may never have sailed before on and off water sailing activities and to experience club life at more than 40 local yacht clubs around Victoria, including the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron and Royal Geelong Yacht Club. BIA NSW is organising an inaugural Roast, with special guest speaker CommSec's Chief Economist, Craig James.
The event will be held at The Deckhouse in Woolwich 18 October from 2.30pm. Tickets are $49 and can be purchased by calling the BIA on (02) 9438 2077. Seats are limited to the first 80 callers. Sounds like a corker!
