Bluenose II in the water!
 | | Bluenose II back in the water in beautiful Lunenburg. Nova Scotia News | The pride of Nova Scotia is back in the water! Built in 1963, the Bluenose II, a replica of the original Bluenose, has recently spent two years in the shed undergoing a complete rebuilt of her hull; she was launched yesterday in her hometown of Lunenberg. The restored Bluenose II, with its smaller deckhouse, looks more like the original Bluenose, a fishing schooner built in the 20's with much more deck space. There is still a significant amount of work to be completed before she sails again in the Spring of 2013; engines, electrical systems and masts and rigging will be fitted over the coming weeks and months.
At the New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island, John Kilroy on Samba Pa Ti, with tactician Paul Goodison, former Olympic Laser champion, took first place at the Melges 32 World Championship. 33 boats were on the start line in Narraganset Bay a week ago, the largest number in the event short history. With 21 entries from the USA, the strong fleet included representation from Italy, Japan, Sweden, Bermuda and the BVI.

Yann Guichard and Spindrift Racing won the European Tour Marseille City Race yesterday, the only team MOD 70 team to capture wins in two cite events; they won the first race in Ireland. Foncia and Desjoyeaux still lead the overall scoreboard though as the fleet takes the start of the next offshore race today; leg 5, final leg of the Europen Tour, will take the multis some 650 miles through the Ligunan Sea to Genoa, Italy but they will first have to contend with light air and rain on the start line.
