Sail-World New Zealand: September 26, 2012
 | | Paul Snow-Hansen and Jason Saunders approach the second nark in second place in the opening race of the 470 Olympic Regatta, Weymouth Richard Gladwell | Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for September 26, 2012
The Auckland On Water Boat Show gets underway Thursday at the Viaduct Events Centre, featuring a mix of undercover exhibits and plenty of floating dreams for you to check out at your leisure.
As we left the show tonight, the finishing touches were being put on the various exhibits and stands. You could feel the atmosphere, and this year's event, now out from the shadow of the Rugby World Cup, looks set to be a great show.
There are around 350 exhibitors and over 40 floating exhibits, getting around that lot, and spending an average of 5 minutes per boat/exhibit will take you the total duration of the show - so it is essential to plan your visit a little without being too tedious.
Take a pen, pick up a program and plan what you want to see, and where it is located.
We've made it easy for you just click here to download the Auckland on Water Boat Show map.
On the right of the map is the list of exhibitors and you can check their locations on the floor plan on the left.
 | | The Sail-World Lounge, is located directly behind the Level 2 sign - our stand opens onto the balcony Richard Gladwell |
Sail-World's Lounge is on the first level - go in the main revolving door, look up to your right and you will see the Sail-World sign. Or go up the escalators to the first level, keep turning right, and there we are!
We've done something different this year creating a Sail-World Lounge with plenty of comfy furniture, and two giant 52' video screens. We'll be running the best video we have found over the past year - America's Cup, Volvo Ocean Race, Olympics and more.
So even if you just want a half-time break, feel free to chill out in the Sail-World Lounge and have a chat, and take in some great sailing video.
There's also some great posters available from these events. Come along to the show, leave your email address, and we'll send you jpg files of the three great shots - Emirates Team NZ's AC72 foiling past North Head, Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie crossing the finish line to win the Gold Medal at Weymouth, and Camper entering the Waitemata Harbour at the finish of Leg 4 of the Volvo Ocean Race.

These will make great gift posters, or screensavers for non-commercial use. We've had several printed at a cost of $50 each at a standard A0 size, which is very reasonable.
Another special on the Sail-World stand will be a sequence of 320 images that have been run together to form a short video of Emirates Team NZ's AC72 foiling on the Waitemata. This shows a run past Rangitoto, a gybe, climb up onto the foils and then a flypast North Head.
Instead of having to fiddle your way through Sail-World with a mouse, come and try our giant touch-screen. We'll be able to show you all the functionality in Sail-World, so you can enjoy your sailing and boating news even more after the show.

If you are interested in advertising on Sail-World, we can explain the benefits using the giant touch screen, and out together a package that will get to your target markets.
But that's enough about us, we look forward to meeting you at the Auckland On Water Boat Show. We'll be filing stories from the Viaduct Events Centre for the next four days, and covering as much of the Show as we can.
There's plenty of news in this edition of Sail-World.com's newsletter.
 | | AC45 Training -Emirates Team NZ / San Francisco (USA) / 25-09-2012 Guilain Grenier Oracle Team USA© |
Emirates Team NZ's coach, Rod Davis, has penned a very interesting feature on the last races of the TP52 Super Series sailed off Valencia, where his team had to come from behind to secure the overall series lead.
It's an interesting and amusing exercise in the application of lateral thinking to sailing strategy - and like everything Rod writes, there are plenty of lessons for racing sailors new and old.
We're in for a busy few days and week, with the America's Cup World Series getting underway in San Francisco.
Key point of interest for New Zealand sailors will be the performance of Olympic Silver Medalist, Peter Burling on the handlerbars for Team Korea. In this edition of Sail-World.com's newsletter we have the latest update from Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, on what they have been doing since the Olympics.
 | | Jo Aleh leads Olivia Powrie back in the P-Class at Kohimaramara Yacht Club Sunday September 23, 2012 Richard Gladwell |
Same with Gold Medalists, Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie, who were reunited with their old P-Class, last Sunday at Kohimaramara yacht Club. Sail-World was there to capture the action on and off the water, and we have an image gallery of the day in this edition.
Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie will be at the Auckland On Water Boat Show, on Saturday and Sunday - see the story in this edition.
It was great to see the spontaneity of the reception that the two Gold Medalists had from the young sailors. There was a tight scrum around Jo and Olivia wherever they moved, and it was a great day, which words can't really describe. Hopefully the images do the day more justice.
 | | 2012 Olympic Silver medalist, Peter Burling with the Team Korea AC45 Guilain Grenier Oracle Team USA© | The two Gold Medalists both started their sailing at Kohimaramara YC, and are on the Honours Boards at the Club for their sailing championship wins. They were presented with Life Membership of the Club, and the same honour will be awarded next Sunday at Takapuna Boating Club, along with 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist Tom Ashley, and 2004 Kayaking Gold Medalist (2004) Ben Fouhy - all of whom are TBC club members.
Many thanks to those who have contributed to this edition, particularly those using our online submission and image loading facility which can be accessed by clicking here
