Actually, the cat is out of the shed... that's right; the amazing wing-sail powered AC72 catamaran bearing the USA 17 sail number was pulled out of the Oracle Racing Team shed earlier this week amidst much fanfare. Considered an incredible feat of design and engineering, the new platform was promptly fitted with its wingsail in anticipation of her first test sail; unfortunately, these had to be cut short because of dagger board issues. I look forward to further sea trials in San Francisco in the days to come!
The America's Cup teams will transition to the AC72 from their current 'development' AC45 yachts for the Louis Vuitton Cup and the AC Finals in 2013. With a mast height of 40m, the AC72 is almost twice as tall as the AC45 and will carry a 260 sq. m mainsail, compared to 85 sq. m on the AC45. The crew will increase from 5 to 11.

The on-water action is back in Weymouth and the Canadian Sailing Team is in the chase! On day 2 of racing, Paul Tingley has moved up to fifth place while in the SKUD18, Louttit and McRoberts sit in fourth after four races. The Sonar team is in eighth place going into race 4 later today. Stay tuned for more reports from the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Day three of racing is on for the Craig and Ross CYA Youth National Championships in Gimli, Manitoba. The event wraps up tomorrow in this first part of the 2013 ISAF Youth World selection process. In recent news from the CYA, Olympian Chris Cook has joined the High Performance team as Development Team manager; Chris is certainly keeping an eye on the racing in Gimli.

Finally, today is the final race day for the Extreme Sailing Series Act 5 in Cardiff, UK. The Wave – Muscat continues their domination of this action packed series. Next event is in France in October before the final act of 2012 concludes, in their first South American appearance, later in December in Brazil.
