While most sailing medals ceremonies have now wrapped up, the Women's Match Racing will conclude today with the medal races; fickle winds of the past two days are gone and have been replaced with some of the best breeze for the entire Olympics games. Spectators will be graced to a magnificent finale between Australia and Spain in a best of three event. With three Gold medals for men events (Laser, 470 and 49er) under their belt at the London games; the Australian team is looking to showcase their women team members today.

With one Gold medal and four Silver, the British sailing team can also walk away from this event with much pride. Unfortunately, the Canadian Sailing Team never found their stride in London with the best results achieved by the windsurfer (congratulations on their top ten finish to Nikola and Zac!); I expect some review of the program once the dust settles. Interestingly, our southern neighbors have suffered the same fate with the strong US Sailing team failing to step on the podium. The talent is there, we need to get back to work in anticipation of Rio 2016!
The popular J/29 North American Championships are being raced in Lunenberg, NS this week-end. Local boat Jaeger is leading a fleet of 14 on the scoreboard after four races; racing continues today and tomorrow, stay tuned for full results.
Later this week, Nova Scotia will be hosting its annual Chester Race Week where over 120 entries, ranging from Bluenose and J/24 to Farr 40 and J/111 will be racing in various divisions. Sail-World Canada will be on-site and reporting from the water.
Lake Ontario and the Rochester Yacht Club, NY will play host to the 2012 J/24 Worlds in September; over 100 boats are already registered.

Just four months after the tragic accident involving the Sydney 38 Low Speed Chase in the Full Crew Farallones Race out of San Francisco, CA, the US Sailing independent review committee has released its final report on their investigation surrounding the unfortunate April 14, 2012 events. The comprehensive report is excellent and I believe it will help save lives in the future; the sensible recommendations put forward by the panel should be reviewed and seriously considered for adoption by anyone involved in the organization of offshore racing.
