Despite the grey skies and plunging mercury around Australia, bleaker still in NZ, there's plenty to warm the cockles wherever you are in the Asia-Pacific this week.

If you haven't heard, a recent trip to Taiwan to inspect the venue of the future Taiwan International Boat Show and meet some of the major yacht builders in the region spawned a burst of stories from my quarter - profiling their methods, business models and ambitions for their products in the global market, with relevance to all manufacturers and marketers in our region.

Organisers are aiming for 250 exhibitors for the first year, and most of those they aim to draw from Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand. Find out what they're offering and why they believe doing business with Taiwan is such an attractive opportunity.

The President of IFBSO, Jurij Korenc was also in Taiwan, guiding the organisers in the path ahead to putting on a world-class show. He lent his wisdom and considerable experience in organising boat shows to comment on the major issues facing event organisers and the marine industry, especially in Europe, where he predicts the economy will not pick up for at least four years.

Korenc also added his weight to the fixation on attendance figures at events, which he asserts is simply one measure of judging a boat show. 'Quality over quantity, any day,' is his motto.
Also this week, a barrage of news from around the world, including some of the final preparations and entries in this year's Audi Hamilton Island Race Week, from 17 July and a highlight on the international calendar, as well as the first feedback from BIAV on the Melbourne Boat Show which closed yesterday to unanimous praise and strong sales.
