Welcome to Sail-World Canada
The VOR fleet is headed to France!
 | | PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG, skippered by Ken Read from the USA, leads the fleet, at the start of leg 8, from Lisbon, Portugal to Lorient, France, during the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12. (Credit: IAN ROMAN/Volvo Ocean Race) Ian Roman/Volvo Ocean Race© | Groupama has improved their lead at the top of the Volvo Ocean Race scoreboard yesterday with an additional six points gained in the Oeiras In-Port Race in Lisbon. The exciting event in the narrow River Tajo proved to be challenging for racers and umpires alike; Telefonica being called for a dubious penalty shortly after the start when they passed PUMA to leeward. PUMA lead the fleet out of the river this morning after the start of Leg 8 that will take them to Lorient, France.
One Class40 yacht remains at sea in the Global Ocean Race but the podium was set for Leg 5 with Phesheya-Racing crossing the finish line in third place in Les Sables d'Olonne yesterday after a 23-day crossing from the American east coast. Cessna Citation grabbed first place earlier in the week, followed by Financial Crisis.
Members of the Canadian Sailing Team will be taking a short break following the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta. Congratulations to the Canadian Paralympic team! John McRoberts and Stacie Louttit took second overall in the Skud 18; the Sonar team of Millar, Campbell and Lutes were third and Paul Tingley was sixth in the 2.4mR; things are looking good for London next month. Clarke and Bjorn finished a disappointing seventh in the Star following equipment breakdown in their last race but are optimistic for the last few weeks of training before the big event.
All the best!
