Sanctuary Cove 2012 – the Season begins

Drove up to the Gold Coast from Lake Macquarie yesterday. It was cold in the Watagan Mountain pre-dawn but shorts and T short weather by the time we reached Sanctuary Cove – where Boat Show bump in was in full swing.

The mood amongst the Sailing exhibitors was certainly upbeat today during bump in. We've had glorious blue skies; we shall see what the four day show brings for the 40k+ crowds.

On the 800km trip north, for the passenger, work continued as normal, they could be online either on smart phones or laptop computers with a mobile WIFI connection in the car either by mobile phone or USB broadband.

This is the way it is these days, with internet connectivity hardly stopping, half of our Sail-World audience sessions happen from mobile devices.

Visitors to the Show will find us in the MarineBusiness-World pavilion – booth 192, hard to port from the entrance doors. As I write this our Sail-World video crew is interviewing the SCIBS event organisers. We will be bringing you lots of exclusive content from this important event.

The fifth round of the ISAF Sailing World Cup, the Delta Lloyd Regatta, is now underway in Medemblik, Holland, with a number of Australian sailors getting off to a great start.

The 2013 America's Cup entry deadline has been extended by two months; there is possibility that beyond the current three challengers there may be a late entry from the French.

Offshore, the six-strong fleet of Volvo Open 70s have been making fine progress in Leg Seven of the fully-crewed, around-the-world Volvo Ocean Race (VOR).

The leg, which takes the fleet from Miami, Florida to Lisbon, Portugal, started with quick sailing conditions that registered fast speeds as each team negotiated Tropical Storm Alberto before transitioning to lighter airs and an opportunity for the sailors to eat and sleep before the new low comes barrelling through.

At the time of this writing, Telefonica is leading the hunt, followed by Groupama 4 and Puma Ocean Racing's Mar Mostro.

Delta Lloyd Regatta - Van Schaardenburg dominates Laser class + Video Delta Lloyd Regatta, Dela Lloyd Regatta first day in Medemblik ended with Rutger van Schaardenburg dominating in the Laser class. The Dutch sailor won the first two races and ended tenth in the third. The third and last race of the day was won by Van Schaardenburgs fellow-countryman Roelof Bouwmeester.... Delta Lloyd Regatta - Israelis battle for Olympic ticket + Video Delta Lloyd Regatta, Delta Lloyd Regatta - Shahar Zubari and Nimrod Mashiah dominated in the RS:X Class on Tuesday in Medemblik; the first day of the regatta. The two Israeli windsurfers shared the win in the first three races under ideal sailing conditions.
