This year's Top of the Gulf Regatta is shaping up to be something really special. The entry list already includes 65 names. Add in the huge fleet of Optimist contesting the Thai Nationals, and then the beach cat fleet - and now there will be 20-30 world class windsurfers in the NeilPryde Racing Series – a one-design windsurfing class world tour, racing the Olympic-standard ISAF RS:One (story below). And we are even promised the possibility of an exhibition night race with LED sails. Blimey! Bill Gasson will be feeling well pleased, we are sure.
And still on the subject of Top of the Gulf - there is still one, just one, Platu available for charter. The Coronation Cup, raced in Platus, is a highlight of the regatta and undoubtedly one of the most seriously-contested divisions on the water. If you like small keelboats, warm water, sunshine and cold beer, pick up the phone now and grab the last boat (story below). It would be a shame to miss it. My bags are packed already.

Philippines' Commodore's Cup 2012. Hi Fi wins. Speeches. Fireworks Guy Nowell, Sail-World Asia, Today it didn't happen – the sea breeze, that is. Instead, two races went away in a solid 10kts, even if it was a bit left-right shifty, but never enough to demand an actual mark change. ‘Challenging', someone called it, but then if there were no challenge every Tom, Dick or Harry could win a yacht race, right? Hi Fi took off at great pace, and was still leading at the second top mark when a susta... [more] Share this story
