AC World Series, ISAF Rankings and all the latest sailing news

Welcome to this edition of Sail-World.com's Europe newsletter.

The America's Cup World Series is in full swing in Naples with tricky conditions testing the fleet. However Day 4 has been cancelled with high winds which will make the final day very tight.

And on the subject of the America's Cup be sure to catch Fisher's View - always interesting reading.

Camper is battling on in the Volvo Ocean Race, edging closer to Brazil, while Franck Cammas and the Groupama 4 team are busy stepping the new mast that arrived from Amsterdam.

The Global Ocean race fleet have completed their eleventh day at sea on leg 4 from Uruguay to Charleston, the latest ISAF Sailing World Rankings have been released and the Access World Championships 2012 have concluded in Australia.

America's Cup World Series Naples Day 4 - Racing suspended
America's Cup,
America's Cup World Series Naples fourth day of racing was suspended due to heavy seas pounding into the breakwaters along the Naples sea front this morning, along with a forecast for winds that could exceed 30 knots. Fisher's View: America's Cup - Racing cancelled on Day 4 + Video

Day four . . . there is no day four. Preservation of the boats overrode all other considerations; the difficulty in retrieving the boats after racing posed the greatest, and seemingly insurmountable, problem. The entrance to the dock area faced the wind and the waves which had built on the swell, and it was perceived that the conditions would worsen and prevent boats safely docking.... [more]

Southernmost sailing voyages - who really has the record?

Recently a Ukrainian/Russian sailing boat, the 98ft steel-hulled Scorpius reached 77 degrees south and claimed a world record. This was greeted by a storm of protest from our readers, one of whom pointed out that in 1965 a tiny moth was sailed at (but not to) 77.5 degrees. There were other claims too. The first day of the Melges 32 Sailing Series commenced under cloudy skies, but a brighter than ever Lanfranco Cirillo aboard Fantastica lit up the sky over wonderful Marina di Loano. America's Cup World Series Naples third day of racing got underway today. Yann Guichard and the men on Energy Team achieved their first victory. The second race was not so kind to the French, who finished in seventh place. AC World Series Naples - Oracle Racing Spithill had the best day across the two fleet races, posting two second-place finishes. In contrast, each race winner (Energy Team, Emirates Team New Zealand) also carried a seventh place score on the day. As a result, Jimmy Spithill's American team gained four points on the leading Kiwis, nearly cutting their lead in half over the course of the day... [more]

Rolex China Sea Race 2012 - 50th anniv. is true offshore challenge

The 2012 race saw a clean start just off the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, with winds of 12-15 knots propelling the fleet out of Victoria Harbour. Genuine Risk led the fleet the first evening followed by Neil Pryde's Hi Fi.
