Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 29 March 2012
From Cadiz, Spain comes the news that JP Tobin has won the Bronze medal in the RS:X windsurfing World Championships. Racing was cancelled on the last two days of the regatta. We have a brief report on the final day in this edition, along with details of the other New Zealand placings.
There are two events coming up over Easter which are featured in this edition, the Paper Tiger International in Australia. New Zealand will be sending a big teams thanks to Maersk.
The Auckland to Tauranga classic, will start on 5 April, and Simon Hull's ORMA 60 trimaran, Team Vodafone sailing has entered and will be chasing the race record - her third attempt at the mark.
We have reports on both events in this edition of Sail-World.

Staying with Tauranga, Team Sanya is due to ship out, or has just left the port - bound for Miami where she will rejoin the race for the InPort race and start of Leg 7 of the Volvo Ocean Race. We have images of her arrival in Tauranga in this edition.
From San Francisco, it would seem that the game of musical chairs has ended in City Hall, as the Board of Supervisors signed off yesterday on the funding proposals for the 34th America's Cup. The event has now been trimmed down from its original scheme, and San Francisco have managed to come up with some facilities for the event.

For those who have seen the transformation of the Auckland waterfront, and also that of Valencia and Fremantle, this has to be seen as an opportunity lost for the City and State of California. However they have done this by their own hand, and to be only now cutting a confirmed facilities deal 12 months out from the start of the Challenger Selection Series is just bizarre - even by America's Cup standards.
Sure the Cup will go ahead. Yes it will be a memorable event. However such things are judged in the long term as to the legacy of infrastructure that is left behind for the staging of other events, of which the America's Cup is but the first rung on the ladder, not the top.
