New wind forecast app by PredictWind is launched

As we go to air, the news has come through that Team Sanya has struck rudder problems in the Southern Ocean and has water coming into the aft compartment - but fortunately not into the main body of the boat.

We have the details as they are known, in this edition of Sail-World, and will update the situation on www.sail-world.com, we have the latest report and images of her return to New Zealand.

The reasons for the broken rudder are not known at this stage, however it comes at a time where the boats are set to cop a 30-40 knot blast from the westerlies that scream unhindered in that part of the world.

At the time, Team Sanya were enjoying another of their moments of glory, leading the six boat fleet, but have now dropped back to fifth overall with Camper taking up the front running.

For several years now we have been using PredictWind as one of the key ways of finding out what is happening and going to happen in the sailing world. You don't get far in sailing without knowing what the wind and weather is going to do - and now PredictWind have announced the new app for the iPhone and Android phones.

This development means you have a weather station in your pocket - which also has course routing for your boat, plus the current wind readings in your area, or where you are headed, as well there is the superb wind forecasting capability of PredictWind.

Catch the story in this edition, which has some of the screen shots - there are nine basic weather functions available in the mobile app - plus the system is 'synched' off your computer at home, so you can set up courses and waypoints ready to be accessed during your trip.

RS:X World Windsurfing Championships underway + Video

The RS:X World Windsurfing Championships are now underway in Cadiz, Spain. The men went out into a building breeze for a 1200hrs start. The wind was 8-18 knots along with big holes, shifts and testing times to say the least. Finn Junior and Senior European Championship - Race 5 + Video

Another mixed up day at the 2012 Finn Europeans in Scarlino, Italy brought wins for Slovenia and Croatia, but Italy ended the day in pole position.
